Good to see you had a satisfactory result with this one Dennis. We also come across similar examples from time to time, but this one is 'top of the charts' at the moment (and I hope it stays there!), Ray

However you measure it the UK economy is grinding to a halt.

Partly due to the obsession people have with housing & the housing market.

You will be able to attend the seminar because we are planning to have a limited number of tickets available for the general public. I can contact you via email if you are interested closer to the time.

I would be interesed in hearing about investing in economically troubled times as this seems especially relevant in todays uncertain market.

Can I attend the seminar? What's for breakfast?

Shameless piece of self promotion.

There are very few financial blogs that are worth reading (and yes, yours is one of them)

It would seem the investing in times of trouble theme is the most topical and relevant. Retiring early also sounds attractive, especially finding out ways to maximise my pension.

It would definitely be the first topic.

If I could come to a seminar on any topic it would probably be based around best ways to combine living in the moment and planning for a comfortable retirement!

Comment on Advisers hit out as Clerical Medical Axes Trail by Dennis Hall

There is an update to this story which basically says that Clerical Medical has performed a U-turn and will now not be cancelling the trail commission of advisers it believed were not offering ongoing service after heavy pressure from the IFA community.

Doesn't this again show just how much the entire retail financial industry relies on commission. Maybe we're barking mad to think we can operate differently, but I sincerely hope we're not.

Comment on Why banks close accounts by Dennis Hall

Caz, I take your point, and yes there are a number of societies that have merged in the past and rationalised their accounts. I have noticed however that there is a rash of account closures occuring in the current climate. Interestingly there is no corresponding merger activity. Regarding the comments I made about Nationwide's account closures, these were for accounts that have always been Nationwide accounts, and not those from the Portman.
